Feng Shui Clutter Clearing Day 19 - Captain America 3D Movie Glasses

This was my first 3D movie that didn't use cardboard glasses. I watch TV on a Mac so if Apple embraces 3D movies I might miss owning these but I'd probably have to go to the Apple store to buy a compatible version anyways. i-glasses, the next must have accessory.

Feng Shui Clutter Clearing Day 18 - Mexican Paper Mache Butterfly Nodder

My husband found an all you can eat crab restaurant in Cabo. He hunkered down for the duration and a couple of kids sold this to me while I was sitting on the patio watching my hubby eat. A hoard of kids descended on us and the cafe posted someone to shoo them away. The kids reminded me of feeding seagulls; feed one and you end up with a flock.

Feng Shui Clutter Clearing Day 16 - Hair Scrunchies

I haven't been able to wear hair scrunchies since Carrie Bradsahw on Sex in The City identified a style challenged woman as being from the Midwest solely from her wearing a scrunchie. I'm from Minnesota and already say "yeah, you betcha" so I can't afford to also wear a hair dinkie.

Feng Shui Clutter Clearing Day 15 - Make Something Design Show Mailer

Not all my clutter is purchased, some is delivered free of charge; well, it's free if you don't count AIGA membership fees. This advertising piece was so clever it lived on my desk for the last week. The idea is to make something from the interlocking pieces. I did a free standing sculpture, considered a mobile and then put the pieces back in the card to photograph so they could be recycled.

Feng Shui Clutter Clearing Day 14 - Beaded Wine Glass Charms

I saw similar charms in a magazine and thought, I can make that. OK... We don't drink or own wine glasses and we haven't entertained with cocktails in over two decades; but I didn't let that stop me. I had to buy wire, multiple packs of beads and then make the darned things, it would have been less expensive to buy them. They are pretty though...

They languished in the cupboard for several years until they found their way into my desk where they became even less functional.

Feng Shui Clutter Clearing Day 12 - Ray Gun Muzzle

A year ago I made a mold of a space gun for an art class. I filled the mold with slip and fired several of these but one was broken in the kiln. I faux finished the broken piece thinking I might find a use for it. I haven't used the 5 rust covered ray guns so it's time to dispose of the fragment.

Feng Shui Clutter Clearing Day 11 - Gotchas

I lost a bunch of weight and got rid of a lot of clothes, who would have thought I'd lose a shoe size. I thought I'd tossed all the old granny panties but this pair was hiding in the back of a drawer.

The photo is cooler than the garland from Hallmark. I'm going to cut them apart so a that pair can be made into a card.

Feng Shui Clutter Clearing Day 2 - 1950s Peter Rabbit Halloween Costume

I used to collect Halloween items and this came in a box of stuff; it's new temporary home is Goodwill. The graphics on the box are cool but the mask is a little creepy. Peter is the kind of bunny that could scare away ghouls and goblins.

Feng Shui Clutter Clearing Day 1 - Couch

I've been clutter clearing lately and after hauling off gobs of stuff; I decided to start documenting it. Our puppy, Buffy, ate a hole in the couch and now it's waiting for pickup on Monday. I frugally rearranged the living room using furniture that we already owned; it looks great. It was nice to use orphan chairs and tables; I'm not sure how I ended up with so much stored furniture.

The demise of our latest couch got me to thinking about our couch history.

#1 - A free couch that had been used as a scratching post. The fabric was medium grey, nubbbly with a slightly oily feel; no one would sit on it. Guests would cruise past to sit at the kitchen dinette. I shared the flat with 3 guys and numerous mice; the mice didn't want to sit on the couch either.

#2 - A garage sale wood framed beast that I painted and recovered; it looked like cabin furniture from the 1950s. One day a spring went through the cushion and it vanished in the middle of the night.

#3 - A blue plaid couch and loveseat from Slumberland; yes, I said blue plaid. I looked nice for about a year but it's best feature was that it was extremely inexpensive. The cost may have factored into it's longevity.

#4 - I was going down the escalator in Donaldson's and spotted a couch that took my breath away. I started going up the wrong way on the escalator just to get a better look at it's elegant lines. It was unbelievably comfortable, and the fabric was perfect. The loveseat was delightful but the couch was the perfect length for a nap and was more comfortable than my bed. Alas, it's gone now.

#5 - We fell in love with the fabric for 2 overstuffed chairs. One is covered in fuchsia tropical leaves and the other is a subtle vintage style palm tree pattern. We had the chairs made and bought a green couch that would go coordinate. The couch would have lasted a bit longer but puppies are tough on upholstery.
